A “home”, an own home, is of great importance to everyone. This applies to people born in the Netherlands as well as to people who settle here. This applies to people who are alone and to families.
You can only start a life in the Netherlands if you have the peace and quiet of a house where you can live. Only then can you start building your life. Then you can orientate on learning the Dutch language or on other skills that you need. Then you can start looking for a job.
You will be assigned a house by the Gemeente Ridderkerk. That is a rental home from Wooncompas.
With Wooncompas (the landlord) you conclude a rental agreement. It contains agreements that you, as a tenant, must adhere to, such as:
- must pay the rent on time
- the house and the garden are well maintained
- do not cause nuisance (your neighbors should not be bothered by you).
It also states what the landlord, Wooncompas, must do. Wooncompas, for example, must ensure that your house remains habitable. And if something in the house is out of order, you can ask Wooncompas to repair it.
In the Netherlands we generally live close to each other with a great many people.
It is therefore necessary to agree with each other what is and what is not allowed in your street and in your neighborhood.
Wooncompas also provides you with a very useful booklet in your own language: “Living in the Netherlands, 21 tips for a happy life with your neighbors”. It contains agreements (rules) that you must adhere to.
