What do you do when you are ill?
When you came to Ridderkerk, you spoke with VluchtelingenWerk Ridderkerk.
They have told you which doctor (we call this a ‘huisarts’), dentist and pharmacy you can go to if you become ill.
The doctor can be male or female. If you only want to be helped by a woman, or only by a man, then you should tell VluchtelingenWerk.
If you are ill, you go to your own ‘huisarts’. You must first make an appointment by phone. Call as early as possible in the morning, then you can often go the same day.
The doctor examines you. He usually determines what you have and gives you advice. Or he prescribes medication.
You may also need to see a specialist in the hospital. Then the doctor writes a letter for the hospital.
You must then make an appointment with the hospital yourself. The details are on the letter you receive from your doctor.
ATTENTION FOR CASES OF EMERGENCY:
Do you have an accident or do you see someone in need? Then call the Emergency Center (Alarmcentrale) as soon as possible, telephone number 112. This number is free. Give your name, tell them where you are and what’s going on. The Emergency Center will decide whether to send an ambulance, for example.
